Uganda Water and Sanitation NGO Network (UWASNET) was founded in 2000 following a
Sector Policy Reform aimed at strengthening the contribution of CSOs in the sector. UWASNET
works though the Sector Wide Approach to contribute to the National Development Plan of
poverty alleviation through universal access to sustainable, safe water and improved standards of

sector, communities and its membership of over 250 CSOs working in different parts of Uganda.
Voluntary Action for Development is also an active member of UWASNET where VAD served
for a period of four years (2014-2018) as a Board of Directors among other 11 BOD member
Organizations. VAD was awarded a certificate of Examplary performance and dedication as a

CHILDREN AT RISK ACTION NETWORK (CRANE)

IMPLEMENTED PROJECT: GIRLS EDUCATION CHALLENGE PROJECT

Voluntary Action for Development (VAD) is an active member of Children at Risk Action
Network (CRANE) as one of the National Networks in Uganda. CRANE is a nondenominational Christian network operating in the Kampala region of Uganda and coordinates
all Organizations undertaking interventions with Children’s rights and protection.
VAD in partnership with CRANE implemented the Girls Education Challenge project for a
period of four years (2013-2017) where a total of 88 girls (22 girls each year) aged 10-18 years
directly benefited. The major aim of this project was to improve the life chances of the
marginalized girls especially those who dropped out of schools for many reasons to be equipped
with hands-on and vocational knowledge and skills to ably apply in their future lives where they
can earn income and meet their needs. In partnership with CRANE, this Network provided
equipments like computers, printer, learning accommodation plus all the scholastic materials to
all the girls that studied plus monthly salaries for the teachers for the whole period of this project
intervention. This created a smooth learning environment for the girls and teachers.
Result of this intervention:
A total of 88 girls attained practical and hands-on training in areas of tailoring, hair dressing,
computer skills and counseling and currently the majority of the girls own their small businesses
to generate income.
Out of 88 girls who had dropped out of schools, 20 girls joined back to upper primary to
continue with their studies after realizing the benefits of education in school
The dignity and value of the girls was restored
Reduced cases of teenage mothers since they were enlightened on the importance of education
and working hard as able citizens of the country so to achieve their dreams.

implement the pilot Community Managed Seed Security Model (CMSSM) in Namayumba Sub
County where two farmers’ groups of 30 members each benefited for a period of one year. VAD
worked closely with Kawerimidde farmers’ group and a seed bank was established at Mr.
Walugembe’ home in Buwasa. And it was of recent in 2017 that this Farmers’ group was visited
by the PELUM COUNTRY Board of Directors.
Further to this, VAD also participated in developing the seed security implementation guide and
currently the guide is out and in use by the member Organizations. VAD also participated in the
review of all the Models which include; CMSSM, Climate Resilient Agro ECO-Systems

PELUM wants member Organizations to integrate them in our work. With all these benefits from

Samuel Life in Other Word

When, while the lovely valley teems with vapor around me, and the meridian sun strikes the upper surface of the impenetrable foliage of my trees, and but a few stray gleams steal into the inner sanctuary, I throw myself down among the tall grass by the trickling stream; and, as I lie close to the earth, a thousand unknown plants are noticed by me: when I hear the buzz of the little world among the stalks, and grow familiar with the countless indescribable forms of the insects and flies, then I feel the presence of the Almighty, who formed us in his own image, and the breath of that universal love which bears and sustains us, as it floats around us in an eternity of bliss; and then, my friend, when darkness overspreads my eyes, and heaven and earth seem to dwell in my soul and absorb its power, like the form of a beloved mistress, then I often think with longing, Oh, would I could describe these conceptions, could impress upon paper all that is living so full and warm within me, that it might be the mirror of my soul, as my soul is the mirror of the infinite God!

O my friend — but it is too much for my strength — I sink under the weight of the splendor of these visions! A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet mornings of spring which I enjoy with my whole heart. I am alone, and feel the charm of existence in this spot, which was created for the bliss of souls like mine.

I am so happy, my dear friend, so absorbed in the exquisite sense of mere tranquil existence, that I neglect my talents. I should be incapable of drawing a single stroke at the present moment; and yet I feel that I never was a greater artist than now.

When, while the lovely valley teems with vapor around me, and the meridian sun strikes the upper surface of the impenetrable foliage of my trees, and but a few stray gleams steal into the inner sanctuary, I throw myself down among the tall grass by the trickling stream; and, as I lie close to the earth, a thousand unknown plants are noticed by me: when I hear the buzz of the little world among the stalks, and grow familiar with the countless indescribable forms of the insects and flies, then I feel the presence of the Almighty, who formed us in his own image, and the breath of that universal love which bears and sustains us, as it floats around us in an eternity of bliss; and then, my friend, when darkness overspreads my eyes, and heaven and earth seem to dwell in my soul and absorb its power, like the form of a beloved mistress, then I often think with longing, Oh, would I could describe these conceptions, could impress upon paper all that is living so full and warm within me.
