VAD has worked with one of her longest partner Signpost International since 2010 and together with Signpost International, VAD has impacted to over 400,000 people from both Wakiso District in Central Uganda and Amuria, Kapelebyong and Napak Districts in North Eastern Uganda. With funding from SI, VAD has implemented livelihood projects in both schools and community and also integrated with Menstrual Hygiene Management and Water, Hygiene and Sanitation. In 2021, with BFSS & Alan and Nesta funding through Signpost International, VAD constructed Lomokori community primary school with a New permanent class room block, with Head teachers’ office and a Library. Before pupils were studying under the trees and they used to face challenges of too much dust, rains, wind which resulted them to always miss classes and there was little concentration among the pupils since they were learning in an open space. Currently, the school has a total of 798 pupils whereby 187 are in the ECD class (Early Childhood Development) while 611 pupils are in Primary 1 to Primary 6. Lomokori primary school has not yet got primary 7. Of the, 611 pupils in primary section (310 are boys while 301 are girls). The current enrollment has really doubled from the previous as of March 2020 which was 472 pupils (235 girls and 237 boys) while at baseline the school had 364 pupils. This is attributed to the different projects implemented such as; WASH –Borehole & Latrine, permanent building, training of pupils in child rights and co-circular activities among others but most importantly the newly constructed permanent building for learning has increased more pupils in this school. Below is the table of the enrollment: Boys Girls Primary 1 126 100 226 Primary 2 64 50 114 Primary 3 48 54 102 Primary 4 28 41 69 Primary 5 29 40 69 Primary 6 15 16 31 Total 310 301 611
Lomokori primary school has got a constructed Borehole constructed by VAD and funded by AIDLINK in 2018. The BH is still functional and serves both the school and the community. However, it is in the premises of the school; hence the school has a very big responsibility of the BH.
