Since 2012, Just a Drop (JAD), a UK-based charity, has been a trusted partner of Voluntary Action for Development (VAD). Over more than a decade, this partnership has consistently delivered high-quality, integrated WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) projects in Wakiso, Kisoro, and Kapelebyong Districts of Uganda.
With JAD’s support, VAD has built a reputation as a strong and reliable implementing partner, recognized for exceptional community engagement, quality construction, and a holistic, sustainable approach. All projects have been delivered on time, within budget, and with transparent reporting.
Impact Highlights (2012–2025)
Implemented piped water systems, gender-sensitive lined VIP latrines, incinerators, staff housing, and extensive hygiene training in three major health centres in Wakiso.
Introduced soap-making training to support hygiene and local livelihoods.
Enabled the upgrade of Wakiso and Buwambo Health Centres to full hospitals.
Attracted significant government investment in Buwambo, including the construction of a new maternity ward.
Delivered and monitored over 15 WASH projects, ensuring facilities remain functional and well-maintained.
Funding Partners
Through JAD, funding has been secured from donors including Guernsey Overseas Aid & Development Commission, Atlas Copco, Euromonitor, That Gorilla Brand, Wendy Osorio, and others.
Recent and Ongoing Projects:
Successfully completed a three-year Guernsey-funded project in July 2025.
Currently implementing a new 2025–2028 Guernsey-funded initiative in Kapelebyong District, focusing on health centres, schools, and communities. This project delivers sustainable clean water, safe sanitation, and hygiene training, while also strengthening livelihoods through an income-generating loan scheme linked to village savings groups and borehole management systems.
Sustainability Approach
To ensure long-term impact, VAD works closely with local government, the Hand Pump Mechanics Association, and other stakeholders. This collaborative approach enhances community ownership, strengthens water system maintenance, and promotes the sustainability of WASH infrastructure for years to come.
